Q. What are your hours of operation?

A. Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Cleanings may occasionally be scheduled, by appointment only and at a higher rate.

Q. Can I choose the day and time I want my house cleaning to occur?

A. I try to work with all clients to provide house cleanings on a day and time of their preference. However, some days are more popular than others, and naturally not everyone will be able to be cleaned on those days. It's best if you can choose at least a couple different days that would work well for you - the more flexible, the better.

Likewise, not everyone can be the first house of the day, or the last. Depending on the day of the week for which your cleaning is scheduled, I may be able to give you a firm arrival time, with a 15-minute window on either side. For example, if I say I will be there at 9:00am, you can expect me between 8:45 and 9:15 - I will do my best to arrive promptly at 9:00am. This firm arrival time usually only works for people who are the first house of the day. Also, you must be willing to have your cleaning started no earlier than 8:30am and no later than 9:00am to be the first house of the day.

If this will not be possible for the day of the week on which your cleaning occurs, I will instead give you an estimated time of arrival with an hour window on either side of that time. For example, if I say I will be there at 1pm, you can expect me anywhere from 12pm to 2pm. This larger window is necessary to assure that I am able to provide appropriate services to all my clients. None of my clients would appreciate me rushing through their cleaning in order to arrive at my next house at some prespecified, exact time. As such, I expect my clients to appreciate the fact that all my clients feel similarly and thus to be as flexible as possible on arrival times.

If you need to know the exact time at which I will come, I am happy to give you a call the evening before each cleaning and let you know what time to expect me. The 2-hour window will apply in such circumstances, but chances are my estimate for arrival time will be more accurate the night before your scheduled cleaning. Additionally, I will gladly call approximately 20 minutes prior to my arrival time to let you know that I am on my way. If you would like to take advantage of either one of these services just let me know!

I can and do let people know if they can expect me to arrive in the morning or afternoon. Morning cleanings mean an arrival time between 8:30am and 12pm. Afternoon cleanings will have arrival times ranging between 12:30pm or 1pm up through 3pm.

If you do not have a preference on arrival time, that's fine. But if you would like to know when your house will be cleaned, please let me know as I do not provide these additional services without client request. Regardless of client request, I will call if I normally clean your house in the mornings but will need to do a cleaning in the afternoon instead, or vice versa.

Q. Who will come to do the actual house cleaning?

A. Me! That's one of the benefits of working with an established, legally owned and operated small business - you get the "best of both worlds" so to speak. You can feel perfectly comfortable knowing that the same person you know and trust will show up to clean your house each time. And as the owner of the business, no one cares more than I do about the quality of your cleaning!

Q. Who provides the supplies?

A. As most professional cleaning services do, I provide all the supplies and equipment to thoroughly clean your home. Unlike many professional cleaning services, I am also more than happy to use your cleaning agents and supplies at your request. Another "best of both worlds" example!

Q. Do I have to sign a contract?

A. No, there is no contract to sign when you receive your house cleaning services through Kristin's Cleaning. I believe my work speaks for itself - I have no need to rope clients into long-term cleaning contracts.

Q. Are there additional fees for the house cleaning?

A. No! Some companies will charge additional fees, such as lockout fees, cancellation fees and missed appointment fees. Kristin's Cleaning will not charge these fees to you. I do my best to be considerate of your needs and notify you of any changes in my schedule that may affect my ability to clean your home on its assigned day. Likewise, I expect my clients to show the same courtesy and notify me of any scheduling changes or difficulties. I ask that clients notify me of such situations as soon as possible, as I may be able to schedule additional work for myself during their normal house cleaning time slot. However, I realize that emergencies come up and it is in not my wish to penalize clients for such emergencies.

Q. What is your satisfaction guarantee?

A. I attempt to provide the highest quality house cleaning service available to my clients. However, I am human and may miss something in your cleaning at some point. If this happens, just call me and I will gladly come out to fix the problem area. Don't worry - I won't be irritated or insulted. You have paid for me to provide a service and it is my intention to provide that full service to you, without disappointment. I will cheerfully correct any problems that come to my attention.

Q. What if I refer your house cleaning services to someone else?

A. I love referrals! It's such a confirmation of the quality I provide (and who doesn't love that?). When you refer me to someone, I want to say thank you. For any referral you give who becomes a regular client, I will give you a FREE cleaning to say thanks! If they decide instead on a one-time cleaning, you still get 1/2 OFF your regular cleaning fee. My hope is to adequately show my apprecation to my satisfied clients when they take the time to refer additional business to me.

Q. What if something is damaged or broken during the house cleaning?

A. Though I use extreme caution in my clients' homes, accidents are just that - accidental. If any item is damaged or broken while I am in your home, I will assume full responsibility for it. I am fully insured for just such reason. I will not hide the damage or "forget to mention" it to you. You can expect me to leave you a note letting you know what happened, what was broken or damaged, and to follow up with a call within 24 hours of your cleaning to discuss the situation and resolve it promptly.

Q. Are you insured?

A. Absolutely. By providing cleaning services, I am touching pretty much everything in a house every time I walk through the door. As such, insurance is the only responsible choice. I am fully insured for both my protection and that of my clients. Copies of insurance are available upon request. I carry a full million dollar liability policy, so you can rest easy knowing that if pretty much anything happens, it will be covered.

Q. Do I need to be home when you clean?

A. No, you don't have to be home when I come. Most people are gone due to the fact that I operate during normal business hours so most people are away at work when I arrive. However, I want to assure you that it is perfectly fine if you are home. I have no problem cleaning around people or starting in certain rooms so that people in the home can go about their daily business as much as possible. After all, it's your home and the whole point of having me come is to make life a little easier for you - a point that would be largely defeated if you had to scurry out the door every time I showed up.

Q. How do you gain entrance to my home?

A. There are many different answers to this question and the real answer is, "However you would like to have that arranged". Many people give me either a key or a garage door code to let myself in. If you are comfortable with this method, it works best to assure that cleanings are not missed due to forgetting that your cleaning is on that day. You could also arrange to be home during the time I am cleaning, or be home when I arrive and then have me lock up on my way out. Alternatively, you could leave a key somewhere outside on your scheduled cleaning day - I will let myself in and then either replace the key in its specified location outside upon my exit, or leave it on the kitchen counter and lock up behind myself when I go, as is your preference. I have also had people simply leave a door open and ask that I lock it upon leaving. Again, this is entirely up to you. I want you to feel comfortable with whatever method of entrance you choose.

Q. How do I pay for services?

A. I currently accept both checks and cash. Checks may be written out to either Kristin's Cleaning or Kristin Urbauer, per your preference. Simply leave payment in an envelope on the kitchen table, counter or other prearranged location the day of your cleaning.

Q. What should I do with my pet when you come?

A. Unless your pet is a boa constrictor or trained guard dog, I'm happy to see them! :) Please put them in a confined location if they are likely to run out the door when I open it. Other than that, I love pets and have no problem with your "best friend" keeping me company while I work. I will even let them out for a "potty break" while I am there, if you have arranged this with me beforehand.

Q. What if my scheduled cleaning day coincides with a holiday?

A. If your cleaning day lands on a holiday, I will call you to arrange an alternate cleaning day. I usually try to arrange these alternate days prior to the holiday, as I realize many people entertain on holidays and would appreciate a freshly cleaned home for such activities.

Q. What do I have to do before you come to clean?

A. It is very helpful when clients pick up prior to their scheduled house cleaning. I do not tidy up and organize as part of my basic cleaning tasks, though this can be added for an additional fee. If you have not specifically discussed such services with me, I will assume you do not want them performed. Though I will clean as thoroughly as possible, I can not clean under areas that are, for instance, completely covered with papers a foot deep. In bedrooms, I will attempt to pick up toys and clothes and place them on a bed or other such place to allow me to clean and vacuum more thoroughly, but my ability to clean a room is seriously hindered by major messes.

Other than that, be sure to leave a key or unlocked door if applicable, along with payment for services, and any notes regarding issues you may need to communicate to me such as scheduling conflicts or changes, or additional requested services.

Please! Do not run around actually cleaning your house the night before I come! I have had so many women tell me that they do this. Trust me, your husbands are right on this one (I also always here about the confused reactions of husbands to this interesting phenomenon) - you are paying for house cleaning. Relax and let me do it. :)

Q. How do I know that the quality will be up to my standards?

A. I have been in business since 2006 providing residential cleaning services in the Lincoln, NE area. Prior to that, I had extensive experience working in the residential cleaning services industry. All together, I have over ten years of experience in this field.

I provide references at the time of your free, in-home estimate. Additionally, I provide a satisfaction guarantee and require no contracts or time commitments from you. The odds are stacked in your favor.

I also encourage clients to communicate their needs to me as thoroughly as possible at the time of their free, in-home estimate. This avoids confusion and disappointment later on down the line. Don't feel like you're "being too picky" by describing what you want done. That's exactly what I'd like for you do. The better you can describe your unique preferences and needs, the better able I am to meet those needs. Communication is the key to any successful relationship and the one between a home owner and his or her cleaning service is no exception.

Q. If I give you a key to my home, what will you do to keep it safe?

A. When a client gives me a house key, they are trusting me with their home and everything in it. That is a big responsibility that I take very seriously. Your key will never be copied, given to another person, or have any identifying information put on it. It will be kept on my person at all times during the day of your cleaning and returned to a safe and locked location at the end of my work day.

Q. What if I need additional house cleaning tasks performed?

A. Clients often ask for additional tasks to be completed and I am happy to oblige. Depending on the request, it may need to be scheduled for a separate day or scheduled ahead of time to assure enough time is available to complete it. Please call ahead to let me know of any tasks outside your normal cleaning arrangements. You may also leave a note the day of your cleaning. If I am able to complete the item at that time, I will. Otherwise, I will let you know that we will need to either schedule the task to be completed on your next cleaning or arrange an alternate time for me to come back to complete the task.

Additional cleaning may require additional payment. This will be decided based on what task is to be completed and also based on frequency of requests. Major items like cleaning out a fridge or oven will require additional time, effort and, consequently, payment. Smaller items may not be charged extra, for example, if you ask that I wash the 3 dishes in your sink. I will do my best to complete any additional requested tasks on the day they are requested and will also do my best to be reasonable in charging additional fees. If there will be additional fees, I will always let you know this prior to completing the task, so you will not be surprised by an unexpected expense.

Q. Who pays worker's comp, insurance and employment taxes?

A. I do! I don't "just clean houses" - I run a legitimate, legal business in which I am self-employed. I pay insurance, bonding and all applicable state and federal taxes, including sales tax.

Q. What cleaning supplies and equipment will you use to clean my home, and why were they chosen?

A. I use many different supplies to clean a home including, but not limited to, the following: Windex, Comet, Pledge, Scrub Free, 409, Lime-A-Way and Tilex. Additionally, I may use other cleaning supplies as necesary, depending on the materials in your home. For example, if you have stainless steel appliances in your kitchen, a special cleaner for these will be used.

In addition to the supplies, I provide all my own equipment including broom, mops, vacuums and more. I use only microfiber mops which allow me to get into corners, under cabinets and right up to the edge of the floor without leaving debris or a "dirt line" on the floor. It also offers superb absorbency so the floor is not left wet for long periods and gives the scrubbing power needed to get stuck on food and messes off the floor. The vacuums I used are Oreck, a brand used by many other professional cleaning services; they are versatile, providing good suction and the ability to get under furniture more easily and thus provide a more thorough cleaning.

I am currently in the process of switching over to all micro fiber cleaning cloths as I have decided that they provide the most efficient quality cleaning to my clients. As with micro fiber mops, these cloths are absorbent, tough enough to scrub with while being safe on all surfaces, and work with less chemicals than other cleaning cloths, making for healthier cleaning in the home.

Q. Do you have references?

A. Yes, and you are welcome to them at any time. I will provide these references to you at the time of your free, in-home estimate. If you would like them prior to this time, simply ask and I will give them to you over the phone. If you would like additional references, I will also provide those, given at least 24 hours notice to first contact and ask permission to do so of said additional references.

Q. What house cleaning services do you offer?

A. I offer a full line of residential cleaning services to suit the varied needs of my clients. No job is turned away due to size (large or small) and all jobs are open to complete customization per client request. I offer weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and bi-monthly recurring services. I also provide one-time house cleaning, move-out house cleaning and holiday house cleaning. By using the term, "house cleaning" I am referring to the cleaning of any domicile including, but not limited to, single-family houses, duplexes, townhomes, condos and apartments.

For more information on the specific services I provide, including the basic tasks list I normally complete at each  house cleaning, please refer to my Services page.

Q. How much will I pay for house cleaning?

A. That depends on many factors. The size and set up of your home, the materials in your home, the number of decorative items requiring dusting and moving during cleaning, whether or not you have your own special cleaning agents you want used, the frequency of cleanings, the number of people and pets in the home and how the home in normally maintained all play into the price you will be given. That is why it is imperative that you have an in-home estimate - otherwise, the price given would be just an educated guess and could be considerably off base. For more information on price ranges for average homes, please browse the pertinent information on my Services page.

Q. What if I forget you're coming and lock the door or don't leave a check?

A. This will depend on a variety of factors including whether this is a one-time incident or has happened before, whether I have access to contact information for you during working hours and the length and tone of our relationship.

If I am unable to gain entrance into your home, I will leave a note or call and leave a message. Most often, I will be able to reschedule you sometime in the next week or so.

If you have forgotten payment, I may go ahead and clean and simply leave you a note letting you know that payment was not rendered. I will most often ask that you call and arrange a time for me to come pick up proper payment within the next 24-48 hours in such circumstances.

If, for any reason, I do not feel comfortable providing services without payment, I reserve the right to cancel your cleaning until such time as you are able to provide payment upon arrival. I most often use this approach with new clients whom I do not yet know well. The majority of the time, services will be provided with a request for payment as detailed above.

Q. What if I am out of town or on vacation on my scheduled cleaning day?

A. If you will not be home on your scheduled cleaning day, it is up to you to decide if you would like cleaning services on that day. As a self-employed business owner, please understand that I may not be able to "squeeze you in" at another time. All other scheduled cleaning dates will remain the same unless specified and agreed upon by both parties.

Also know that I am happy to provide cleaning services while you are out of town. Additionally, I will provide other basic services such as mail and newspaper retrieval, watering plants and caring for pets while you are away for an additional fee. Please inquire for more information regarding these services.

Q. Why is your quote higher than the other two cleaning ladies who gave me quotes?

A. The most likely cause of this is due to the fact that I run a legal business. I pay taxes, insurance, provide supplies and absorb all costs associated with doing so. As such, I can not afford to provide my services at "bottom of the barrel" prices. However, I also do not provide my clients with "bottom of the barrel" cleaning, so please keep this in mind when making your decision. I strive to keep prices reasonable, and indeed provide prices considerably lower than many other local cleaning agencies.
